A Peyson Fascination

Peyson is at a really fun age right now. He is so interested in everything. Let me share with you his fascinations.

Right now the mowers are here mowing the lawn. They go from front to back on each side. So does Peyson. He stands at the door wherever he can see them and watches intensely while they mow. He points and waves and makes mower sounds. He waves every chance he can get. They smile back and continue to mow. Peyson watches them weed eat and blow the grass clippings off the sidewalk. He stares until all the workers are out of site.

Peyson LOVES any sort of vehicle that has a siren. No matter what he is doing at any given moment...when he hears sirens, he stops what he is doing, looks up in surprise and makes siren noises. The real sirens fade in the distance...Peyson keeps howling away. When we pass cars that make the noise, he knows, and makes the noise.

Animals are another of Peyson's fascinations. His favorites are doddies and ohsies. That's right, doggies and horsees. Daddy takes him running most evenings on a trail near our house that goes right by a field of horses. As soon as Peyson sees the jogging stroller he starts saying ohsies, ohsies. And as soon as he gets back...ohsies, ohsies. Any time he sees or hears a dog, he gets excited and starts dancing around, waiving his arms and barking like a dog. If he sees an animal he doesn't know, it is a horse or a dog as well.

When he knows it's time to go he says oosh, oosh. You guessed it...shoes. He knows the closet where we keep the shoes. So even if his shoes are right in front of him, he runs to the closet. Even if we tell him he doesn't need his shoes, he insists. As we attempt to walk him out the door, he proceeds to pick up every toy in reach to bring along. He fills both hands and the mouth most times.

Peyson's favorite food must be cheese. Any time he is hungry, morning, noon, or night, he goes to the fridge and gets the cheese.

Peyson drinks lots of milk during the day. He has his sippy available at any time. However, when he needs a drink, he thinks it needs to be completely full before he can have any. Even when the last time he took a drink he ONLY took a sip. So when he is thirsty, he tries to pull out the milk jug, plops on the floor and yells till someone comes to fill it for him.

Peyson loves to wave at everybody. Especially random people he doesn't know! But as soon as they see him wave, he gets scared and pulls his hand back. Some days, he accompanies the wave with a hi. He says hi to anybody we pass. Most of the time the gesture is returned.

Anybody who is smaller than Peyson, not necessarily younger, is considered a baby. He points and says baby over and over. And he doesn't say it just any way, it's in a soft baby kind of voice, like he's saying...oh that baby is so cute! I love it!

After we change his diaper, Peyson has to be the one to throw it away. We put the stinky ones outside in the garbage can, and the others in the kitchen garbage. He knows the difference. He marches right to the garbage of choice and waits for help.

And the best of all. When it is nap time or bed time, I lay him down in his bed. Before he gets settled, he folds his arms and waits for a prayer. After prayers he snuggles his blanky and his Gigi (giraffe) and gets comfortable.

And these are Peyson's latest Fascinations.
