Peyson is usually a great sleeper and putting him down for the night is like cake. But this week he is being silly. Our routine goes like this:
*shower
*lotion
*diaper
*jammies
*climb into bed
*must have blankie and a car or train or both
*pull the big blanket on
*1 song
*a prayer
*i love you's and good night
*Peyson always says, "bye mommy mommy" and maybe a little, "have fun"
(love it)
Now Peyson decided to add:
*one more song (without the g) mommy mommy
If I'm feeling generous he gets one more song. Sometimes he pushes the limit and asks for another and another or another prayer, or anything really that will keep me in with him just a little longer.
Let's be honest...with that cute little face and the *one more son mommy mommy* I always stay one song longer:)

Another Missouri Summer
Last Friday we left for the weekend. Rain was falling and had been for forever. We went to Utah for a wedding and when we got there it was like winter all over again. The temperatures were in the 40s and 50s but sheesh!!! That was cold. (i think i've lived in missouri for too long) I would have been very happy with a winter coat.
On our way back home, we were in the air and the pilot told us to expect 85* in Kansas City. I forgot what that meant until I stepped out of the plane. The humidity was like a slap in the face.
We got home and our house was like an oven and it smelt really...not good! The AC couldn't catch up fast enough! And it doesn't work in the bedrooms. Holy Moly! It's hot!
Thinking positively though: in the humidity, it doesn't hurt to breath...breathing that dry air sure makes your nose hurt. Gotta get used to that...

The Things He'll Do
When I was a little girl, my two little brothers always asked my mom, "can we run away?" I don't know if they knew what that really meant. They would "run away" to the dirt hills by our house for the afternoon and come back when they got hungry. One day they left and didn't come home. It started to get dark and they were still gone. A phone call came and it was the police. They found them at the not so close Kmart. They were found safe and sound and brought back to us.
I couldn't understand as a child why my parents were so worried. Or why they were so mad. But today I understood. Today was my day of worry.
Peyson and I went to the school for a picnic. There were tons of kids and their parents all around playing and eating and enjoying spending time together. They started handing out gifts and I got up to throw away our plates. I went up to get my gift then turned to site Peyson to make sure he was ok. I couldn't see him anywhere so I looked for his little friend. Both were out of site. I saw his mom looking as well. I went for the doorway that was across the room. She went the other way. The only thing we found was each other. Were they together? Did anybody see them leave? Where could they be? I turned around to search down the long hall while she checked the elevators. I heard faint laughing and thought I was losing my mind and kept looking.
The number of doors and stair cases and halls were multiplying by the minute. They could be anywhere. Panic set in and I couldn't think straight or decide where to look. I came back to the hall and heard the little girls saying they were hiding in the bathroom. I ran to the door and they were found taking turns putting toilet paper down the toilet and flushing. They were safe. They were here.
The two little boys were missing for maybe 5 minutes. They were the most terrifying 5minutes of my life and I can only imagine the terrifying moments I have yet to experience. I wanted to be mad but all I could do was look at him and hold him and love him. I tried to tell him that what he did was very wrong and very scary. How do you explain to a 2 year old that playing in the toilet with friends is scary? How do you tell a 2 year old that he can never run away again?

Fummer Seh-ee
Last night there was a big storm. Lots of thunder, lots of lightning, lots of rain. I love thunder and lightning in Missouri.
Derek was telling us he recorded some of the storm at 2:00 this morning while he was taking a study break. Then we took him to school.
The whole way, Peyson was telling us about the storm too. Fummer seh-ee. I seh-ee mama. I sared. Fummer sared. (translation...thunder scary. i scary mama. i scared. thunder scared.) When Peyson tries to tell me he is scared, he says he is scary. It's stinkin cute! Then we get to cuddle :)

Toddlers Are So COOL!
Peyson is in love with this movie. He watches it at least once a day:)
Today we were in the car waiting for Derek and this song came on.
Peyson got so excited and this is what I heard...
"cars mama...da cars da cars...sumthin sumthin...da cars mama...sumthin sumthin...mac wiving...an da cars...da cars son...da cars..." (translation: the cars mama, lots of toddler jibber jabber, Mac driving on the interstate, the car song, Cars, Cars, Cars...)
WHAT? Peyson just heard a song on the radio. He knew what movie it was on and exactly when in the movie it played. It was hilarious! Then of course he wanted to watch the movie right then and there. All he did the rest of the night was ask to watch it until we got home and turned it on:) Love that kid!

Sad Face :(
I have moved so many times in my life, it is ridiculous! Lots of them happened when I was too small to know what was happening, some were when I couldn't care less because I had no huge attachment to what I was leaving.
When I was in 7th grade, my family lived in Laramie, Wyoming. We found out we were moving to a place called Lusk, Wyoming and I was thrilled. But I couldn't wait to leave that town after I graduated high school!
I didn't enjoy moving back to that town before I got married, but I knew it was just temporary.
We lived in a super small apartment when we first got married (in Laramie) and then decided to move across town a year later...I was so sad when we left that silly little place. Sometimes I drove by it just for the memories.
Then we moved again. Our things came to Kirksville and we went to Lyman for the summer. I miss Laramie but I am happy where I am.
Now it's time to move again and I am so SAD! I have never wanted to stay as much as I do now. I have never had so many genuinely good friends to surround myself with. I have never felt so loved by others as I do here.
Kirksville is the first place we have ever really felt the need to make friends, have friends over, frequent friends' homes, go on road trips or just hang out. Peyson has friends and asks for them often.
I don't want to move!!! In all our other moves, our house has been packed as much as it can be two months in advance. Derek always makes fun of me for it. But we are moving in a little over a month and NOTHING is boxed yet. I have dejunked a few places, and organized a few closets. But I just don't feel like getting ready for this one. Sad face! :(

WhAt Is ThE fAsCiNaTiOn?
Why is it that runners on the side of the road attract completely asinine behavior?
Let me tell you--this girl is the furthest thing from attractive when she's running down the road. You know how it goes, hair pulled back tight so you don't have to stop and redo your pony tail, no makeup, that would just be silly, suckin air cuz you are so out of shape, cotton mouth, and sweat stains from head to toe (just kidding, i don't really sweat that much but you get the picture). Then add in the fact that she's pushing a stroller!
I mean seriously, what about that picture warrants yelling or whistling out the window, or laying on the horn, or squealing tires? That's the worst, cuz then you have to run through that stinky stench of burnt rubber. As if you weren't already having a hard time breathing.
I just don't get it. Do you?
