Our FIRST Home

Before we matched we researched housing in Michigan until we had every rental listing memorized.  When we matched in Texas we were clueless.  After lots of help from residents already in Amarillo, the Internet, Amarillo bishops, and a realtor, we found our FIRST home.
I wasn't interested in buying a house for a 4 year stay.  Would our salary be enough to afford it and any repairs?  Ahh....nervous......not ready to be a grown up.  But renting in Amarillo was outrageous.  Not happening.  So we started looking for homes.  We stumbled upon some new builds.  YES!  I had my heart set on a new build and guess what?  It happened.  I figured we needed to pay a little more for something a little newer (no fixes.....hopefully), in a better area (for our safety of course) with the good schools and something that would for sure sell when we leave our residency location.
We left kids with grandma and drove to Texas.  We spent one morning looking at homes.  We knew what we wanted by lunch time.  We signed papers after lunch.  We got a contract by dinner.  The next day we went home.  Quick success.  So lucky.
Our first look was our pick.  But we still looked at about 10 homes.  Some were ok.  Some were neh...  Some were HECK NO.  Two were amazing.  But one of those two was at the top of our budget and only a block from a correctional facility.  No thanks.  So Nick St it is.  Yeah!
3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms a fenced yard (that should be put in by now) and a garage. Granite counter tops. Everything brand new. We are super excited!

The house doesn't look like it will fit people...Derek looks too tall to fit inside. :) Congratulations!! A new build sounds awesome. You are going to love owning a home. Hurray!
