One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish

I love Dr. Seuss! A lot! My mom never read them to me when I was a kid because she HATES books that rhyme! I know, she's crazy. I already told her so. Cuz I LOVE them! So when we go to the library, Peyson plays with the puppets that are smothered with nasty (because you can check them out. . .ewww!) (I used to let him check them out but it just got too nasty for me to think about), and I find at least 3 new Dr. Seuss books to take home and read. This weeks selection included One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. I love the silly. I love the illustrations. I love the made up words.

Anyway. We got to this page. . .

I read it, laughed to myself and then pointed to the picture and asked Peyson,
"who is like this?"

He looked and said, "YoU!"

I laughed so hard!
Mostly because I was thinking the same thing!

Why oh why oh why oh why do I yell so stinkin much?

I'm sure he wants to put me out!

Like. . .ALL. THE. TIME!

Scared to Death I'm Sure

Two nights ago Peyson and I went to pick up dinner. Soda first, then pizza. I am fully aware of how often we do this. But we like it. A lot. And we don't like cooking all the time. . .ever really. . .AnYwAy. We stopped at the "mug store" to get gas and soda (it's not the gas station because we hardly ever stop for gas. . .but a mug. . .yes. . .the mug store).

We were filling up with soda when Peyson asked if we had any candy at home. I said no. He said we really needed to buy some. I said no, we didn't need any. So I'm at the check out counter, talking to the cashier. Of course there are those obnoxious candy bar stands right at the check out right at a child's eye level, mind you, that get you to buy something ridiculously overpriced because you already fought the temptation throughout the store but you have to stand in line and wait and stare at them until you either give in and buy something or finally pay and leave. Peyson was eyeing them. I was paying close enough attention to him to know he was right by me and not lost or stolen, but not close enough to notice that he reached for a candy bar in said obnoxious candy bar stand. Keep in mind. . .everybody has agency. . .no matter how awesome. . .or not awesome their parents are.

I finish paying and turn around to leave and Peyson was standing there with is hands behind his back. I said let's go and took a step to the door and he turned so I couldn't see what was behind his back. He does this at home sometimes when he is doing something he knows he shouldn't, so I knew what was happening. I told him to put it back and he did. We got to the car and I sat him in his seat. I told him quite sternly that what he was about to do was called steeling and that it was against the law. We have to pay for things before we take them from the store. He was sad and embarrassed and also mad that he couldn't have a candy bar. I'm not sure he was listening because he turned his head to the blaring lights on the cop cars that sped by.

TEACHING OPPORTUNITY!

As I was somewhere in the middle of my "I'm trying to teach you something important so I'll repeat myself 17 times in a different way so you will get it" ramble, explaining to Peyson what steeling was and why it was bad, when those cops rudely interrupted me:) So I said, "do you want those cops to come and take you to jail?" That caught his attention and he turned to me with scared little eyes and said no. I told him that when people steel the cops have to come and take them to jail. His eyes filled with tears and he began to sob. . .then cry. . .out loud. . .very loud. . .near hysterics. I was like. . .whoa whoa whoa. . .what's wrong? Crying so hard he said, I don't wanna go to jail! I was like dude, you didn't steel, I saw before we left the store and made you put it back. It's ok. You aren't going to jail, but if you ever steel then that is what will happen.

OH. BOY.

He finally calmed down after a few minutes on the way to get pizza. I told him I loved him and always would. No matter what.

Maybe it was a little over the top. Maybe it scared him enough to never steel. Maybe he just thinks I'm a big jerk. I don't know. Whatever he thinks, I'm sure he was scared to death!

Daddy's Girl

From day one this little lady has been in love with her daddy. They snuggle at nap time when Daddy is home. They snuggle at bed time. And sometimes she won't even eat from me. Only Daddy will do.

Ainslee hasn't had her morning nap today. She thinks she is big enough to skip it. Some days I don't care. Anyway, I was in the kitchen and Peyson yelled from the living room to come see something. So I went in and she was laying on her blanket on the floor with the bottle in her mouth and he was rubbing her head. It was adorable. Then she saw me and smiled real big. Also very adorable. So I thought maybe she would like to snuggle to nap. NO WAY!

I'm not her daddy. I will not do. Mostly always. Even when she was sick all of last week she wanted him and him only. I am the nurturer here! Snuggling is my job. She doesn't think so. I absolutely LOVE her being a daddy's girl and having him wrapped around her finger. I dreamed that would happen as soon as we found out she was a girl. But this momma is feeling left out:)

When Daddy is gone at bed time I will do. Only then, she settles. And Peyson prefers mom. So I get some snuggles. But there is nothing more precious than those sweet little mushy baby snuggles.

"Batman" turned 4

Before Christmas I started the process of planning Peyson's birthday. At this point he was completely obsessed with Batman. One day it just made sense to have a Batman party. He thought it was a great idea so we did it.We invited 8 boys from our ward. That is a lot of chaos. But they all had fun so the two hours of insanity was worth it I think. We played pin the bat on the moon. We had a balloon stomp. We had a pinata. . .the kind you beat with a bat (I made it. . .Derek helped some. . .and informed me that it was a complete waste of time:) Whatever. . .it was fun for me). The boys had fun with that. It went through all the boys twice. . .without the blindfold. . .it just wouldn't break. We had cupcakes. They pulled all the balloons from the ceiling and popped them all too. Then as parents were coming to pick up kids they played Batman Batman Robbin (duck duck goose). After the party, we took Peyson to McDonald's for dinner and he played in the play place for awhile, but was more excited to go home to open presents from Grandmas:)
It was a really fun day (after the party. . . 4 year olds don't understand time. . .and if it isn't RIGHT NOW. . .it doesn't work. the morning was rough). I can't believe this time next year I will be thinking about KINDERGARTEN!!!!

A Miracle Happened Today

Derek is one week into his ER rotation. Today he worked from 6:00am-4:30pm. He was getting ready to leave for work this morning when Peyson woke up. Derek told him to go back to bed, but he wanted to snuggle mommy instead. I love mornings like this. Peyson goes back to sleep instead of watching tv, playing with toys (loudly), raiding the kitchen for food, and waking up Ainslee. So we slept well into the morning (considering small children are involved). Ok it was like 7:40 when Ainslee starting calling (and that is sleeping in for me considering the 6:00 wake up call to go P90X2 it every morning). Right about then Derek texted me because he forgot his stethoscope and needed me to bring it.
So we got up, ate breakfast, made a shopping list, got ready, and were out the door. I loaded the kids in the car when I realized I forgot Ainslee's bottle. I knew she would need it because we always seem to run errands during nap time. I ran back in to get it.
We were almost to the hospital. I was coming down a hill and the light was turning yellow. I was going fast enough that I was just going to go through it instead of working hard to stop. Then a car went flying by, running its red light. There was a cop car stopped at the same red light who immediately took off after. I was forced to stop then so I wouldn't hit the cop.
It wasn't some life or death situation. I was able to stop just past the cross walk. By then my light was red. I watched the cop follow the car and pull them over. I turned my attention to my thoughts and realized I was less than 10 seconds away from being smashed at the intersection. Imagine if I had been a few seconds ahead. . .suppose I didn't run back in to get the bottle. . .
Tears came to my eyes. I was a little shaken. I said a silent prayer. A prayer of gratitude for my safety and my kid's safety. I don't even want to think about what it would have been like for us to meet Derek in the ER in an ambulance rather than our own car.
Then life went on as normal. But a miracle happened today.
